Although the exact ‘opening’ date of the Drama Club remains a matter of debate, and it may well be a little before the one given here, it is clear that the foundation for all that followed was laid by Cyril Malyon’s decision to start an After School ‘Stagecraft’ Group at Markhouse – despite this activity not enjoying a particularly high profile within the school, nor, as some of the original members suggest, with much support for it beyond themselves and the staff directly involved!
Whilst it seems that the early life of the club was conducted at quite a ‘low key, the important fact was that it got off the ground and, within a relatively short period of time, Cyril found himself in the right place at the right time to take full advantage of the significant changes that occured in the life and direction of the school from 1956 onwards
