Somewhat in contrast to the December Newsletter’s comments about the decreasing amount of ‘new’ memorabilia being found, the last few weeks have, in fact, proven to be quite the opposite and hence this early edition in 2026 – one which might well be characterised as containing ‘a couple of surprises’. This is particularly so in relation to an ‘absolute fluke’ that has not only enabled us to add this photograph of Leslie Smith, taken on his 60th Birthday, but also make a connection that will help us add more to the website about his further career and life after leaving as the Headmaster of Mark House School in 1966
Latest Website Additions – Autumn 2025
This mosr recent Website Addition page from the Autumn 2025 Newsletter includes a few recently found photographs and newspaper articles that feature MDC members, a Markhouse School class group, a football team, a much cherished former post school caretaker and several MDC members in another one of their hobbies – but this time at Marsh Street Youth Centre – as shown here!

SUMMER 2024 Newsletter – Extract
Welcome to this latest Newsletter and its range of Drama Club and Markhouse School items and of the future plans for the CMMF; also of the story behind this ‘interesting’ feature photograph. There is also the latest news on the now ‘well overdue’ story of all that happened in the few years before the school closed in 1966 – a future report for the website that has, unfortunately, been delayed by ‘circumstances beyond our control’ – as the saying goes!
Sadly, the content also includes the earlier news of the sudden and unexpected loss of Marjorie Kett who had been involved with the Drama Club during her teaching career at Mark House and, indeed, after its closure
Website Additions – Summer 2024
This latest range of memorabilia added to the website has several school class photographs including a very much more recent ‘mini reunion mode’ – along with a number of new names added to the former members list, additional photographs added to the ‘Thornage Hall’ and ‘Saves Lives – Drop The Knives’ CMMF Projects, details of the very last Markhouse pupli to win the prestigious Lord McEntee Award. There is also a ‘recent re-union’ photograph and story, with its humourous ‘GCE Examnation context, in the websites Memories page.
Website Additions – Autumn 2023
These website additions include a newly found Report of our ‘forgotten’ entry in the 1965 ‘Youth Speaks’ Festival, several items about Mark House School, a prestigious ‘Borough wide’ McEntee Award for a MDC member, a new page for Marsh Street Youth Centre and the report on the CMMF Project at Kelmscott School, Walthamstow – from which this feature picture is taken. On a very sad note the additions also include a tribute to Bill Chapman.
